Hello from sunny California,
It was mostly sunny today and a little cooler as I don't think temps got above 70 today. That's perfect weather for me. I didn't check out of my beautiful San Diego hotel room until 10:00 this morning. Once I hit the road I traveled about ten miles north of downtown San Diego to the Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial. A massive cross monument honoring American veterans, with plaques telling their stories.
This is one of the most unique Veterans Memorials in America. The only one to honor veterans, living and deceased, from the Revolutionary War to the current global conflicts. Black granite plaques include a picture of the veteran with a brief summary of their military experience. Currently there are over 3,500 veterans honored on the Memorial Walls. Five new walls recently constructed will accommodate an additional 2,400 plaques.
Just a couple of miles below Mount Soledad is one of the most beautiful places on earth, La Jolla Cove. I spent over two hours exploring the area.
The pictures don't do it justice. If you would like to see and hear the sounds of this stunning place watch my video in 4K. California sea lions can be found in the waters of the Cove and resting on it's bluffs.
The swells that often roll in from the open ocean can be large and strong.
The area was quite packed with people even on a Monday morning. It was quite a task to find a place to park. I could have spent all day here and not got bored.
I did reluctantly leave and moved on from San Diego. Before getting on Interstate 5 and heading north I stopped and filled the car with gas. I made sure the tank was full before leaving Arizona so this was my first fuel purchase here in California. The price was $5.899. I only had a hundred miles to drive today to my hotel in Long Beach. I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency which you can see in the picture below.
After getting settled at the hotel I fired up the scooter again and headed out. A pedestrian bridge connects the Hyatt to the harbor area. Maybe it was because it was Monday, but I was surprised how few people were around. Below is the Shoreline Village along the harbor.
Below you can see the Queen Mary coming into view behind Shoreline Village.
I made my way up to the Lions Lighthouse.
Lions Lighthouse is a decorative lighthouse and was funded by the Downtown Long Beach Lions Clubs International to advertise their services to blind people and was first lit in 2000.
From the lighthouse you get a nice view of the Queen Mary. That Carnival cruise ship was leaving port as I was passing by.
Below is a nice shot of the city of Long Beach from across Shoreline Marina. On a rare occasion I can take a nice picture and this is one of those instances. I really like this photo.
From the lighthouse I called the Outback Steakhouse and ordered me some dinner which I picked up on my way back to the hotel. The wind had picked up and it was a chilly ride back to the hotel.
The final shot of the day comes from my 16th floor hotel room window at sunset.
That's all I have to report for today. I think I'll watch a few episodes of Schitt's Creek on my 70-inch TV. Good night.
Tim
