I am spending the night at the Courtyard by Marriott in Culver City, California.
I stayed at this hotel back in 1975 with my father and brothers. It was a Ramada Inn then.

I have a standard room with one king bed.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON APRIL 12, 2022
Warm greetings to you all,

It was another beautiful day here in Southern California. Temperatures were in the upper sixties and it was quite breezy, so I needed my hoody when I was out and about. I stayed in my beautiful Hyatt Regency hotel room in Long Beach until 10:00. Below is a picture from my room on this crystal clear Tuesday morning.

I headed north on the Long Beach Freeway and then switched to the 101 into downtown Los Angeles. I parked my car about six blocks west of City Hall and then headed out on my scooter. I went into City Hall to go up to the observation deck. But I was turned away as it has apparently been closed since Covid. The guard said it might reopen in May. After careful consideration I decided not to wait and left the building.

The Los Angeles Sister Cities signpost is on the corner of Main Street and 1st Street, by the Los Angeles City Hall. The signpost indicates the direction of Los Angeles' 25 sister cities as well as the distance to them.

I scootered around to the other side of City Hall to the Grand Park. The picture below didn't come out too bad considering I was shooting into the sun.

Below is some of the Los Angeles skyline from behind the flags in the Grand Park.

I did feel a little uncomfortable wandering around downtown L.A. amongst all the homeless tents, which are everywhere. My next stop was Olvera Street.

Olvera Street, known as "the birthplace of Los Angeles," is a Mexican Marketplace with a block-long narrow, tree-shaded, brick-lined market with old structures, painted stalls, street vendors, cafes, restaurants and gift shops.

There was a gas station across from Olvera Street. I took a picture of their sign.

Next I tried to go to Echo Lake. You can get some nice pictures of the skyline from across the lake. But there was no parking or accessible entry point for my scooter. So I decided to go up to the Griffith Park Observatory since it was such a clear day.

You get a really nice view of the Hollywood sign from up here.

And below is a zoom shot of the Hollywood sign for your viewing pleasure.

Then on the other side of the observatory there are sweeping views of Los Angeles.

And again I'll include another picture to give you a closer look at the Los Angeles skyline.

Next I decided to visit nearby Hollywood. They had all the footprints fenced off in front of the Chinese Theater.

I strolled along the walk of fame for a short while dodging the plethora of people. I passed by where Jimmy Kimmel tapes his show every night.

This area is really a sewer and I had no desire to spend any more time here. I decided to head to my hotel. But Beverly Hills was on the way so I stopped by there first.

I took a quick peek at Rodeo Drive.

And I couldn't resist taking a short stroll up Beverly Drive.

From here it was a nine mile drive to my hotel. That only took me 45 minutes to do. I am staying in Culver City. That's a couple miles north of LAX. I'm staying at the Courtyard by Marriott. But it used to be a Ramada Inn. My dad and brothers stayed here in 1975. We thought this hotel was the greatest thing ever back then. The first time we had ever stayed at a hi-rise hotel. My dad would never pay for any place fancier than a fleabag motel. My room is on the 12th floor overlooking the San Diego Freeway. And it also overlooks this.

That picture is just for my bothers. I didn't eat at Dinah's. I got my dinner from the Sizzler on Sepulveda. Where I have eaten dozens of times before. Below is the view from my room after it got dark.

I debated with myself about coming to Los Angeles. There were a few places here I wanted to visit but I wasn't sure it was worth the hassle. Traffic here is a real nightmare. As recently as a few days ago I considered canceling this part of the trip. But as you can see I decided to come. Traffic was aggravating today but bearable. That's it for today.
