Eleven minute video from today's visit to Yuma, Arizona.

I am spending the night at TownePlace Suites in El Centro, California.

I have a one bedroom suite with one king bed.

Howdy,

I'm sure you must be tired of hearing from me by now. Today was the 19th day of my trip so far. Weather has been phenomenal. Rain the first two days and nothing but sunny skies since. It has been a little warmer than I like it the past couple of days. I left my hotel in Phoenix at 7:10 this morning. Interstate 10 is completely closed through Phoenix all weekend. So it was a bit longer of a drive to get on the Interstate. It was just under a three hour drive to Yuma, Arizona which was 186 miles away. Once in Yuma I took a pleasant Saturday morning stroll down Main Street. Temps were comfortable but are supposed to reach 99 later in the day.

Below is a fountain in the center of Main Street. It actually had water running through it. All the fountains in Phoenix yesterday were turned off. I assume because of the drought.

These bright purple and red bushes are everywhere. They're beautiful.

I passed by the Yuma County Court House.

Mission Puerto de Purisima Concepcion is located on the California side of the Colorado River.

Next I visited Yuma's most popular attraction, the Yuma Territorial Prison. Below is a picture of the Ocean to Ocean Bridge over the Colorado River from the prison park.

The picture below is from inside the prison of the cell block.

I can't image how hot these stone cells got during Yuma's hot summers. They had to be like ovens.

My next stop was ten miles west of Yuma in Felicity, California. In May 1985, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors designated Felicity as the Official Center of the World.

The town was established in 1986 by Jacques-Andre Istel. The town's key features are a 21-foot-tall stone-and-glass pyramid, a church on a man-made hill, and the Museum of History in Granite, which Istel has been developing since the town's founding. The museum consists of dozens of granite panels, most of them over 100 feet long and weighing approximately 500 pounds. Etched on the panels is a historical record of humanity as chronicled by Istel.

It was a fifty mile drive to El Centro, California from there. That is where I am spending the night. The drive on Interstate 8 is so boring. I kept hitting myself to stay awake. After getting settled at my TownePlace Suites I got me some dinner from the Olive Garden across the street. The chicken gnocchi soup was delicious. They gave me this huge bag of breadsticks for just one meal.

I should make it to the Pacific Ocean tomorrow. Until then, have a good weekend.
