MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON APRIL 8, 2022
Hello everybody,

It was another beautiful day in Arizona. Today was the warmest day they have had so far this year at 97 degrees. The day started off with me checking out of the beautiful Hilton Hotel on the east side of Tucson. I proceeded to drive 120 miles to Phoenix. My first stop was Hole-In-The-Rock in Papago Park. There were a lot of people here climbing the rock. I was not one of them.

Also here in Papago Park is Governor Hunt's Tomb. His tomb is a tomb in the shape of a small white pyramid behind a fence at the top of a hill within Papago Park. He was the first governor of Arizona, serving a total of seven terms.

My most important stop of the day was next. I paid a visit to Alice, Flo, Vera and Mel at Mel's Diner. Kiss my grits!

Next it was a torturous drive to South Mountain Park. Every road in this town appears to be under construction. It was about an eight mile drive down South Central Avenue and it was a mess the whole way. Once in the park I made my way up to Dobbin's Lookout. This is a scenic observation point with an elevation of 2,330 feet. From here you can clearly see downtown Phoenix and surrounding cities, McDowell Mountains, Piestewa Peak, Camelback Mountain, and the Superstitions.

It was a nice clear day. No dust storms and very little haze. It was a spectacular view. Below is a zoom shot of downtown Phoenix.

Dobbins Lookout is the highest point accessible by trail at 2,330 feet.

After taking in the views from Dobbin's Lookout it was time to explore some more of the park.

The photo below was taken from the Gila Valley Lookout.

It was back in to downtown Phoenix next and every road was under construction the whole way. I made my way over to the State Capitol.

I wandered all around the interior of the building. Below is looking down on the House Chamber.

I was a bit surprised that you could walk right in to the House Chamber.

The grounds of the Capitol are quite pretty. I found it odd that there was no one around in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday.

Directly across the street from the Capitol is the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. It is the site of various memorials honoring prominent figures, wars, and events in Arizona history.

This is a very pretty park with more memorials than you can shake a stick at. Below is the Navajo Code Talkers Memorial.

I spent quite a bit of time exploring the pretty grounds around the Capitol. Below is a pretty shot looking back across the park toward the State Capitol. That is the American Merchant Seaman Memorial on the right.

Below is a shot from the far end of the plaza looking down Washington Street to downtown Phoenix.

After visiting most of the memorials it was time to check into my hotel. I'm staying at the SpringHill Suites located two miles down the road on the other side of those buildings. Not wanting to drive very far for my dinner I settled for Jack In The Box which was the closest eatery to my hotel.

After dinner I tuned in to SiriusXM and listened to today's Reds game as I prepared today's email and worked on the web site.

There is a video of the State Capitol on the web site. It is the first video shot with my new camcorder. I also used new software to edit it. If you watch it let me know if you notice any differences, good or bad.

Good night,

Tim
