Howdy folks,
It was another beautiful day in Arkansas. Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday only a little warmer with temps in the low 70s. I left my hotel in Little Rock just after sunrise. It was just under a two hour drive to Hot Springs, Arkansas. The first thing I did was take a nice stroll down historic Central Avenue. The picture below was taken at Hill Wheatley Plaza.
I passed by Bath House Row. There was a long line of people waiting to get into one of them.
At the intersection of Central and Fountain sits the historic Arlington Hotel.
At this part of my self-guided tour of the city I crossed to the other side of Central Avenue and headed back to the car.
When I started my "walk" there weren't a whole lot of people around. But ninety minutes later when I got back to the car it was quite a bit busier. Next I made my way up to the Mountain Tower.
There was a great view from the top. Crystal clear skies and no haze at all.
Below is looking down on the Central and Fountain intersection where I had just been walking.
I left town after coming down from the Mountain Tower. It was just over an eighty mile drive to Hope, Arkansas. The small town of Hope is the birthplace of two men who later became the governor of the state. They are Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee. And it may soon spawn a third governor as Mike Huckabee's daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is running for governor. I saw one of her ads on TV while I was here.
In the picture below you can see some beautiful spring blossoms at the President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site.
And below is a picture of the actual home.
I was disappointed that you could not go in the house. It was all locked up and no one was around. You could look through the windows though, so that is what I did.
1.2 miles from his birthplace home is his boyhood home.
And below is the railroad depot in downtown Hope.
After my exploration of Hope, Arkansas I made my way to Texarkana. It was a 35 mile drive. I visited the Post Office/Court House which sits on the state line. The left side of the building is in Texas and the right side of the building is in Arkansas.
By this time I was tuckered out and wanting to call it a day, so I made my way to my Courtyard hotel on the west side of town in Texarkana, Texas. I got my dinner from the Texas Roadhouse near here.
I'm now struggling to get the web site and this email done. The Internet connection here is awful.
Until tomorrow,
Tim
