Howdy,
I left my hotel in Gatlinburg right after sunrise. I had planned to stick around the Smokys for most of the day and then drive to Chattanooga later in the day. But the forecast for Chattanooga tomorrow looks bad so I thought I would get here early and do some of the things I was going to do tomorrow today instead. It was about a three hour drive to get over here. The first thing I did was take a riverboat cruise on the Southern Belle down the Tennessee River.
We cruised the Grand Canyon of the Tennessee River, the Tennessee River Gorge. The cruise was advertised as a fall foliage cruise, but there was very little fall color today. We cruised past some very nice homes.
It was a nice cruise. The weather was beautiful. But it lasted too long. It was a three hour cruise.
After the cruise I drove up Lookout Mountain, crossed into Georgia and visited Rock City Gardens.
The gardens were decorated in autumn finery.
I took the shortcut to Lover's Leap. I was unable to do all the up & down steps and climbing over rocks that the main trail requires. I was really pleased at how well things went yesterday at the SkyBridge. I didn't walk nearly that far here today and I was in much greater pain. I couldn't walk over fifty feet today without having to stop and rest my feet. I finally got to Lover's Leap the focal point of Rock City.
The picture below was taken out on Lover's Leap looking back on the mountain.
You get a nice view of Chattanooga from up there.
I picked the right time of day to go. If you go in the morning you'll be looking into the sun. Below is a picture of the flags. There is a flag for each of the seven states they say you can see from up here. Can you figure out what all seven states are?
Next I checked into my Best Western motel here in Chattanooga. I got my dinner from a Logans Roadhouse next door.
Have a good evening,
Tim
