APRIL 1986 We began this short vacation with a one night stay in Louisville, Kentucky. Pictured above is the Belle of Louisville, an authentic 1914 stern-wheel steamboat which offers scenic cruises of the Ohio River. Pictured above is the "White House," worldwide headquarters for Kentucky Fried Chicken. While still in Louisville, we also made a quick stop at Churchill Downs, the historic racetrack where the Kentucky Derby is ran. Starting our trek southward through Kentucky, we stopped at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site. Next we passed through Nashville, Tennessee. Pictured above is the state capitol. We spent the night in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We spent the next morning touring Rock City. You can see seven states from its lofty perch. The above aerial view of Chattanooga was taken from the summit of Signal Mountain. After leaving Chattanooga it was into Alabama. Noccalula Falls plummets 95 feet from a limestone ledge in Gadsden, Alabama. We spent the night at the Westin Peachtree in Atlanta. This was the view out our hotel room window. This is the worlds tallest hotel. We started heading back north toward home. We stopped in Toccoa, Georgia to see the 186-foot high Toccoa Falls. We spent the final night of our trip at the Hyatt Regency in Knoxville, Tennessee. Above is the view from our hotel balcony. Our last scenic stop was at Cumberland Falls State Park near Corbin, Kentucky. You can see more of Atlanta on my 2009 trip.
