AUGUST 1985 We began our 1985 summer vacation by flying to Seattle, Washington. Immediately after arriving in the pacific northwest we hit the road. We took a ferry over to Whidbey Island. The above photo was taken from the Deception Pass Bridge at the north end of the island. We spent our first night in Vancouver,B.C. The above photograph was taken from Stanley Park looking across English Bay toward West Vancouver. That's me holding on for dear life while crossing the 449-foot long Capilano Suspension Bridge. We rode the Grouse Mountain Aerial Tramway above the clouds that were covering the city. After our short stay in Vancouver we returned to the United States for a one night stay in Seattle. The above picture taken from the top of the space needle shows how gloomy the weather was. We also spent one night in Tacoma. Pictured above is The Narrows Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. We made a quick visit to nearby Olympia. Pictured above is the state capitol. The weather continued to be poor on the day we circled Mount Rainier. Even though the weather kept us from seeing the mountain, Mount Rainier National Park was still beautiful anyway. Pictured above is my father on the bridge above the waterfall. After Mount Rainier it was into the great state of Oregon. Pictured above is the charming town of Astoria, Oregon. After spending the night in Astoria, we drove down the coast of Oregon. The above photo was taken from Cape Foulweather. We spent the night in Roseburg, Oregon. Crater Lake National Park was next on our agenda. Near the small town of Redmond, Oregon are two very scenic parks. Above is Smith Rock State Park. And the other is Peter Skene Ogden State Park. We spent the night in Bend, Oregon. We spent our last two nights in Portland, Oregon. We spent a whole day exploring the Columbia River Gorge. Pictured above is the Vista House at Crown Point State Park. The above picture looking out toward the Columbia River was taken from a bridge in the middle of 620-foot high Multnomah Falls. We flew home from Portland, Oregon. Click on the banner below for my latest trip to Washington & Oregon. You can see more of Vancouver B.C. on my 2007 trip.
