Hello,
I had a really fun time in Los Angeles today. Weather was beautiful as usual. My first activity of the day was just a couple miles south of my hotel at LAX. I decided to do a little plane spotting.
I saw a picture of an A380 flying over this In-N-Out sign and I wanted to recreate it for myself. But there wasn't much going on this morning and I quickly got bored and left. Then a short while later an A380 flew over me while I was on the road. The dash cam caught it.
Since I was in the area I had to get a picture of a Los Angeles landmark, Randy's Donuts. I was going to stop in and get a couple donuts but their three car lot was full so I moved on.
My next stop was only a few more miles down the road, the FIVE billion dollar SoFi Stadium. This is where both the Rams and Chargers play football. It also hosted the Super Bowl a couple months ago.
This is Lake Park in front of the stadium. Does anyone known what the flowers are in the picture below. They were beautiful. I want a yard full of them.
The stadium opened less than two years ago on September 8, 2020. I'll include one more picture of this impressive facility.
Next on my agenda was Exposition Park. There are several sites to visit within the park. The palm tree you see behind the sign below is over one hundred years old and is the oldest palm tree in Los Angeles.
The first place that I visited here was the California Science Center.
Located within this building in the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Built to replace space shuttle Challenger, Endeavour was the final orbiter to join the shuttle fleet. Endeavour successfully completed 25 missions into space, including the first service mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as the first mission to add a U.S. component to the International Space Station.
Next I explored the grounds of Exposition Park. I stopped for a photo op of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Next I visited the rose garden. WOW! This was beautiful.
I didn't even know this garden was here. When I was taking a picture of the sign I noticed it listed rose garden as one of the sites inside the park. When I was getting ready to leave I hadn't seen it anywhere. So I asked a security guard where it was. There was some construction going on blocking the usual path to the garden. The guard told me how to get there. I'm sure glad he did. It was the highlight of my day. Be sure to watch the Exposition Park video on my web site. The last half of that video is all from the rose garden.
The Rose Garden was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Below is the Natural History Museum behind more beautiful roses.
I think I took a picture of every flower in the garden.
It was back to my Culver City hotel next. Later I of course got my dinner from my Sepulveda Sizzler.
My final picture from today was taken a short while ago from my window of this former Ramada Inn.
As I am preparing this email I am watching the Dodger's home opener on TV. They are playing the Reds. A great way to end this already fun day. Well, it would be better if the Reds were winning, but that's not the case.
