Hi all,
I just finished up my tenth day in Texas. Today I drove 222 miles from Alpine, Texas to El Paso, Texas. The first 98 miles of that was on U.S. Highway 90 between Alpine and Van Horn. That had to be the most mind numbingly boring stretch of road I have ever been on. I was very glad to get back on Interstate 10 in Van Horn. Shortly after getting on the Interstate I entered the Mountain Time Zone. The first thing I did in El Paso was to make my way to the Scenic Drive for some great views of the city.
Known as the best view of the city accessible by car, Scenic Drive skirts around the east side of the mountain offering up some of the most stunning views of the city. The road is cut along the edge of the mountains and traverses the southern tip of the Franklins. One side of the winding road is lined by beautiful stately homes while the other features fabulous views of El Paso and Juarez.
As you can see in the pictures it was yet another beautiful day. Below is a picture from the small park and scenic overlook looking toward the city's skyline.
You can see my hotel in the picture above. It is the last prominent building on the right. Below is a little closer look at El Paso's massive skyscrapers.
Below you can see "La Equis," Juarez Mexico's iconic 202-foot-tall sculpture just south of the Bridge of the Americas that connects El Paso, Texas to Juarez, Mexico.
After I finished taking in the amazing view I headed for my hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown El Paso. The first thing I did was take a picture from my hotel room window of where I had just been. You can see the Scenic Drive on the right side of the mountain.
The picture below was also taken from my hotel room window.
Next I fired up the scooter and took a stroll around downtown. It didn't take long. There wasn't a whole lot to see. Below is San Jacinto Plaza at the city center.
Below is another picture taken from my hotel room window. This is the downtown area just after the sun set tonight.
It was all I could do to stay awake on that drive over here today. It was only a little over a three hour drive but it seemed to take forever. After I came back from my downtown stroll this afternoon I went and got me some dinner from the Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers about a mile down the road.
That concludes today's report. Tuesday's report is only a day away. Good night.
Tim
