Hello Friends and Family,
I am spending tonight in Evanston, Wyoming. This is only 98.9 miles from where I spent the night last night in Rock Springs, Wyoming. But I didn't exactly take a direct route to get here. I actually spent the day in the northeast corner of Utah exploring the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. In the picture below you can see the reservoir and the Cart Creek Bridge on the left.
After leaving the reservoir overlook above I drove all around and over the Flaming Gorge Dam. The Dam is a concrete thin-arch dam on the Green River that forms the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, which extends 91 miles into southern Wyoming.
After a brief stop at the dam visitor center I continued on my way crossing the Cart Creek Bridge. This steel, through-arch bridge over the Flaming Gorge Reservoir was constructed in 1962.
Next I made a quick stop at the Cedar Springs Marina. Below is a picture from the Cedar Springs Overlook alongside the highway after I left the marina.
I had perfect weather. Temps in the 50s and 60s so I didn't get too hot under the bright sunny sky. Below is the only critter I came across today. I saw a fox running through the snow yesterday. This one was standing in the middle of the road daring me to pass.
Below is Red Canyon. I found it truly remarkable that there were very few people here. It wasn't totally deserted like my trip through the snow yesterday. But on many of today's stops I was the only one around.
Red Canyon was the only place I needed to use my scooter today. There were several overlooks so I used it on the overlook trail. Below is another lookout at Red Canyon.
The next overlook is my favorite, it is Sheep Creek Overlook. I literally sat myself down on the ground and enjoyed the spectacular view along with the peace and solitude. During the twenty minutes or so that I was sitting there only one other person came by, and she admired the view for all of about 30 seconds.
Just look at all the different colors in that picture. Why this place isn't a national park is beyond me. It's stunning in my opinion. The picture below is the same place just a closer look.
Below is some more gorgeous scenery as I was driving away from Sheep Creek.
A few miles from here I took a drive on the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. It was a ten mile scenic loop road that circled back to the highway.
I spent quite a while on the road stopping about every twenty feet.
It's spring time here. The tulips and daffodils are in bloom. Below is my final picture from the Flaming Gorge National Recreation area. It is also from the Geological Loop.
I really enjoyed my day here. It's about 70 miles south of Rock Springs. I got here at about 8:00 this morning and didn't leave until after 3:00. Weather couldn't have been better. If you are ever in this area you'll definitely want to pay this place a visit.
Tonight I am staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Evanston. I treated myself to a pizza for dinner since I didn't have breakfast or lunch today. Half the pizza is left over. I want to put it in my cooler but not sure I have anything to put it in to keep it dry.
Tomorrow it is back into Utah. This time I'll stay for a few days.
More later,
Tim
