OCTOBER 1982 Our first stop on our Autumn excursion was Frankfurt, Kentucky. Pictured above is the state capitol. We spent our first night in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We spent our first evening playing some Hillbilly Golf. We started our sightseeing the next morning. We took in many of the Gatlinburg tourist attractions. Pictured above is the aerial tramway. After concluding our visit to Gatlinburg it was on into the Smokie Mountain National Park. After leaving the park we drove to Asheville, North Carolina for the night. We passed through beautiful Maggie Valley enroute (pictured above). We spent the better part of the next day at Chimney Rock Park (pictured above). We then headed north into the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The two above waterfalls were among the sites we saw there. Linville Falls is on the left and Pearson Falls on the right. After spending a second night in Asheville it was on into Georgia. The first site we saw there was Tallulah Gorge State Park. We spent the night in Atlanta. The Georgia state capitol is pictured above. The next day we drove to Chatanooga, Tennessee where we spent the night at the Chatanooga Choo Choo Hilton. We had to curtail a lot of our activities the next day due to the weather. We tried to visit Rock City, but when we got up there the fog was so thick you couldn't see the hand in front of your face. We were able to tour Ruby Falls-Lookout Mountain Caverns. We reached the 145-foot falls via an elevator into the caverns. The falls are 1120 feet underground. We then drove to Nashiville, Tennessee for our last night. Pictured above is the Tennessee state capitol as seen from our hotel room at the Hyatt Regency.
