BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY: DAY THREE
I stopped at a few overlooks and saw some deer before the fog and rain set in for the day.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON OCTOBER 21, 2019
Hello folks,

I hit the road this morning at sunrise. The weather report did not look good. But it looked the least bad early in the day. I drove back to the Blue Ridge Parkway where I left it yesterday.

The first thing I saw was a lot of deer. They must like the early hour. At one point I saw a whole group of them including some young ones right along side the road. But they ran off before I could get their picture. I did get a picture of these two a few minutes earlier.

The weather certainly wasn't pretty but at least when I stopped at an overlook I could see something.

But that would not last long. After about a half hour or so I drove into the first fog bank of the day. I drove through a thick fog for about a half hour until I finally got out of it. All the overlooks were up in the fog. When I came out of the fog there was nothing to see, so I took a picture of my car.

A few minutes later I drove past a pond, so I jumped at the chance to send you all a picture of it.

Just after the pond I did take a picture I really like of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This is when the wheels fell off the bus. I drove into a pea soup fog as thick as I have ever seen, and it did not go away. I spent a couple hours driving through that muck. So when I finally got to the Boone area I left the Parkway and headed over to my hotel. I was going to go up Grandfather Mountain and do some things in the pretty Linville area. When I got to the hotel the uncooperative staff of the Boone Quality Inn refused to let me check in before 3:00. The room was already paid for so I couldn't go somewhere else. The local movie theater didn't even open until 2:00 so I couldn't kill time there. So I basically spent three hours sitting in the car. I picked up a WiFi connection outside a Lowes and was able to use my computer.

It was not a very fun day and the forecast is the same for tomorrow.
