Hello Everyone,
What a difference a day makes. After the thunderstorms went through last night it has changed from hot and humid to cool and breezy. This morning I had a 140 mile drive from Alexandria Bay to Lake Placid. It was a scenic drive all the way through the Adirondack Mountains.
I got to Lake Placid at about 11:30. I checked into my hotel, the Crown Plaza. I have a beautiful view of Lake Placid from my balcony.
I only stayed at the hotel long enough to change clothes. It was too cold for shorts so I put on some slacks. About five miles from my hotel is High Falls Gorge. I walked through there.
It wasn't near as long of a gorge as Watkins Glen so I was actually able to see all of it.
My next stop was the Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway. This is a road to the top of New York's fifth highest mountain peak.
Good thing I changed clothes, it was a bit chilly at the top.
There is a tunnel that leads to an elevator that goes to the summit house at the very top. But of course the elevator broke down last week and is not working. So you have to climb to the top.
I slowly tackled the set of steps you see above. But I turned around and went back when I saw what was ahead after the stairs.
They weren't even steps anymore, you were climbing over boulders. I did snap a few photos from my highest point.
Below is a picture of the summit.
I'm not sure if the body of water in the picture below is Lake Placid or another lake.
I got back to the hotel in time for the Colts game. But as I expected the local FOX station was showing the Giants Cowboys game here. But they did switch to the Colts game when that game ended and I was able to see the last five exciting minutes. The final outcome was quite disappointing. I am currently watching the Sunday night game. Hopefully the stinking Patriots will lose.
I'll write more later,
Tim
