Hello again everyone,
I got a somewhat late start this morning. It was quite foggy when I woke up so I didn't check out of the hotel until it had lifted. After the fog lifted it was a nice day, but very hot. It was in the low 90s today. The weatherman said that 75 was the normal high for this time of year.
It was about a 70 mile drive to the main attraction of the day, Letchworth State Park. The park is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The picture below is Middle Falls.
Letchworth State Park has been voted the finest State Park in the country.
There are two other waterfalls in the park, Lower Falls and Upper Falls. Both required hikes that I was not able to do. But the Middle Falls is by far the largest and most impressive of the three.
The picture below was taken from Inspiration Point. You get a nice look at the gorge that runs through the park.
From the park it was about an 80 mile drive to where I am spending the night, Watkins Glen. The Indy Car Grand Prix was held here over Labor Day weekend. The U.S. Vintage Grand Prix will be here this coming weekend. I am staying at the Harbor Hotel in downtown Watkins Glen. I have a nice view of Seneca Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) from my room.
After I got settled in my hotel I went out to see a couple of nearby waterfalls. When I got to both of them they were bone dry. This evening when the sun started to set I took a walk along the harbor.
The picture below was taken from the end of the pier looking back at my hotel.
That's it for today. I'll write more tomorrow.
Tim
