Hello Folks,
When last we talked I had arrived in Southampton, England early Friday evening. I stayed at the Novotel Hotel and I could see my cruise ship docked at the Mayflower Pier from my hotel window.
When I woke up Saturday I took a nice long walk around Southampton. It is a nice clean little city. I'm guessing about the size of Evansville. Below is a picture from my walk around town.
I continued my walk around town until about 11:00am and then got cleaned up and boarded my ship, the Sea Princess, at noon. Embarkation was effortless, I was in my stateroom within five minutes.
The Sea Princess is not quite as large of a ship as I'm used to from my previous cruises. But it is still a large and beautiful ship with around 2000 passengers. Below is a picture of the ship's atrium.
I am considerably out numbered by the Brits here. There are just over 100 Americans onboard and nearly 1900 Brits. At least I'm not the least tanned one on ship, they're all pale as a ghost. Hopefully that will change soon as we head for the sun of the Mediterranean. We set sail right on time at 5:00pm. Below is a picture of Southampton as we were departing.
We're now heading out the English Channel around France. We have two days at sea before we get to our first port on Tuesday morning. Once we get past France we will sail around the Northwest coast of Spain and then Portugal. By then we will be near our first port and my next email. Below is another picture the city of Southampton just after we set sail this afternoon.
