The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory consisting of the
larger Caicos Islands and smaller Turks Islands, two groups of tropical islands
in the Lucayan Archipelago, north of the larger Antilles island grouping.

I took a short tour of the small island.
We stopped at the Grand Turk Lighthouse which is a 60 foot tall structure
overlooking North Creek. It was completed in 1852 to alert sailors of the shallow reef.

After the tour I took a walk along the beach before returning to the ship.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON JANUARY 8, 2015
Hello folks,

We were in Grand Turk today which is the capitol of the Turks and Caicos. There are 40 islands of which 10 are inhabited. We got here at 1:00 this afternoon. Below is a picture from my balcony as we were sailing in.

Pretty blue waters here. Below is a closer look at the island just before docking.

The beach goers didn't have far to walk today, as the beach is located at the end of the pier.

Except for the beach there really isn't much to see here. I took a short tour of the island. We drove out to the lighthouse on the far end of the island.

We got a pretty view of the ocean from out there.

This island is not at all built up. Lots of donkeys roaming freely. I took a short walk along the beach after my tour.

Unlike the past couple of days we were the only cruise ship in town.

We are at sea tomorrow. Back in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. Some people will be ending their cruise there. I continue on another week. Sunday is a sea day as well.
