Land's End and El Arco and into the harbor of Cabo San Lucas. Next I take a walk around the harbor followed by a coastal cruise of the area which includes a whale sighting. After tendering back to the ship there is a beautiful sunset and then we sail away. |
Greetings from Mexico! I didn't write anything from yesterday as we sailed south off the coast of Mexico. It's been a very smooth cruise so far. The waters have been as smooth as glass all the way down. I spent some of my time yesterday in the casino. I actually hit several nice jackpots. I lost some of it back but I'm still up about $350. Except for the 5 minutes I spent in Tijuana about twenty years ago, this is my first real visit to Mexico. We had a beautiful day of weather today, about 80 degrees and sunny. We got a beautiful view of the Baja Peninsula as we sailed into Cabo late this morning. The Baja Peninsula is the planet's longest peninsula and Cabo San Lucas is located on its southern tip. And it is where the Pacific Ocean merges with the Sea of Cortez. We were one of four cruise ships in Cabo today. So there were about almost as many tourists in the harbor as there are residents of Cabo. The picture below was taken as we sailed around the spectacular rocks of Los Arcos and into Cabo San Lucas' harbor. We got a nice view of El Arco as we arrived. The arch is the areas most famous landmark. I would get a closer look later in the day on my coastal cruise. We dropped anchor a little after 11:00 this morning among the other cruise ships in the harbor. We were the last to arrive. Below is a picture of my ship, the Island Princess. It was taken from the tender on the ride to shore. I had three hours to explore Cabo San Lucas on my own before my coastal cruise at 3:00. Way, way more time than I needed. I ended up walking around the harbor two or three times to kill the time. I could have skipped my hour of laps around the promenade deck this morning had I known how much walking I was going to do ashore. You pretty much have to beat the peddlers off with a stick as you walk along the harbor. But it was a scenic walk. My feet were sore by the time my coastal cruise left at 3:00. The first thing we passed on the cruise were some of the many resort hotels along the Sea of Cortez. We passed the unique Lover's Beach. Below you are looking at the Sea of Cortez side and that's the Pacific Ocean on the other side of the rocks. This is known as "Lands End" the southern most part of the Baja Peninsula. Below is El Arco, into the sun from the Sea of Cortez. We could almost reach out and touch the rocks as we sailed around them and into the Pacific Ocean. Below is El Arco yet again. This time with the sun behind from the Pacific Ocean. Below is Lover's Beach again, this time from the Pacific. Below are some of the multi-million dollar homes sitting atop the cliffs. Bill Gates owns one of these. Below are the light houses. The old one on the bottom and the new one on top. This was also the area where we saw a couple of whales. Only got video of that, no pics. It was back to the ship after the coastal cruise. The last picture was taken from the ship about an hour before we sailed away. It was a fun day. We are now sailing for Acapulco. We won't get there until Thursday as tomorrow is a sea day. Will write more later, Tim |
