NOVEMBER 1990 We began our late autumn vacation by spending the night in Lexington, Kentucky. We continued our southeast trek the next morning. By mid afternoon we arrived in Columbia, SC. Pictured above is the state capitol building. By late afternoon we arrived in historic Charleston, South Carolina. Pictured above is St. Michael's Episcopal Church. The storied steeple rises 186 feet above the street. The clock in the tower has marked time since 1764. We began the next morning with a scenic cruise of Charleston Bay. We passed many southern mansions such as the once pictured above on our cruise. After our cruise we toured the USS Yorktown. After our sightseeing in Charleston it was a short drive down to Savannah, Georgia for the night. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency. Pictured above is Savannah River as seen from our hotel window. We spent an enjoyable afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida next. Pictured above is the skyline as seen from a park just across the St. Johns River. Pictured above is a 208-foot cross which marks the spot of the founding of St. Augustine, Florida. After leaving St. Augustine we drove to Disney World. We once again stayed at Disney's Contemporary Resort. The next day was Thanksgiving and we spent the day touring Cape Kennedy. Pictured above is one of the the launch pads. We spent the night at the Westin Peachtree in Atlanta. This was the view out our hotel room window. This is the worlds tallest hotel. We wrapped things up the next morning with a tour of Stone Mountain, a massive dome of granite rising 825 feet above the surrounding plain just east of Atlanta.
