Hello again everyone,
It was another long but good day today. I left my hotel in West Yellowstone at 7:30 this morning. It was about a 20 foot drive back into Yellowstone National Park. The park was nice and peaceful and not crowded at this early hour. I had planned to drive strait to the Tetons but I passed Old Faithful on the way and since I missed it yesterday, I decided to see it this morning.
The geyser is no longer very faithful. They give you about a twenty minute window of when to expect its eruption. I also made one more stop in Yellowstone, Lewis Falls.
It was about a two hour drive before I had cleared Yellowstone and entered the Grand Teton National Park.
It was a perfect day weather wise. Temps in the low 80s and not a cloud in the sky. Unfortunately there are two huge forest fires in the state of Washington and all that smoke is making its way over here resulting in very hazy skies.
The Tetons are not a large mountain range but I have always thought they were one of the most spectacular. They rise up from the flat lands and shoot strait up to the sky. No foothills at all.
Below is a nice view of the mountains from across Jenny Lake.
Below is a great shot of all the Teton peaks.
I got to Jackson, Wyoming at about 1:00. I quickly checked into my hotel and then headed back out. I had some lunch in Jackson and then drove over to Jackson Hole's Teton Village and rode the aerial tramway to the top of the mountain.
Below is a shot of the tram from the top of the mountain.
The view from the top isn't the greatest. You can just barely see the top of the Grand Teton on the left. This is mainly a ski resort, one of the best in the world.
Next I drove over to Moose and hopped on a raft for a float trip down the Snake River.
It was a very peaceful and scenic trip. We saw several bald eagles and a few other critters. The sun was setting as we neared the end of the two hour trip.
It was close to being dark buy the time I got back to Jackson. I had time for a quick walk around the town square before all light was gone. I love this town. This is my third time here.
I am staying at the Rustic Inn. A very nice property. One of the nicest places I have ever stayed. It's getting late, after 11:00. I better get to bed. I have my longest driving day of the trip tomorrow.
