WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2013:

Late in the afternoon on Wednesday we arrived in the ancient city of Riga,
Latvia's capital, made famous by the stories of Baron von Munchhausen.
We checked into our hotel at the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija in downtown Riga.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2013
About a half an hour after leaving the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania we crossed the border into the small country of Latvia. We arrived in Riga at 6:30 and checked into our hotel.

1.5 million people live in the capitol city of Riga. That is 60% of the country's entire population. We had dinner at the hotel tonight and will spend all day here in Riga tomorrow. Below is a picture of the city from the hotel.

Until tomorrow,

Tim

THURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2013:

Riga is a beautiful historic city on the Baltic coast.
The extensive old town contains narrow medieval streets, Gothic and Baroque Churches,
19th century municipal buildings and Hanseatic warehouses. Our expert Local Guide
took us on a sightseeing and walking tour of this beautiful city.

In the afternoon we visited the Open Air Museum at Bergi, one of the showpieces
of Latvia's cultural heritage. It is situated in a pine forest on the banks of the Jugla Lake.
Some 90 authentic and traditional buildings - farmhouses, windmills, fishermen's houses
and churches have been rebuilt here. We were served a typical local lunch at Bergi which
made me very ill and I spent the rest of the day in bed.

MY EMAIL FOR SEPTEMBER 5, 2013
Hello folks,

We spent all day in Riga Latvia. We had a city tour in the morning around the old town.

At noon time we visited the Bergi open air museum. We saw various buildings from old farming communities. They served us lunch after the tour and I am still recovering from that. I haven't eaten a morsel of food since and it has been over 30 hours.

We had all afternoon to ourselves and I was going to explore the beautiful city of Riga on my own. But since I was poisoned at lunch I was already feeling bad by the time I got back to the hotel and spent the rest of the day in bed.

This email was actually sent on September 6 from Tallinn. The rest of the email is on the Tallinn page.
