Hello everyone,
I'll try not to complain as much as I did in yesterday's email. But that won't be hard to do, I had a great day. We sailed into the port of Naples shortly before 7:00 this morning. The ship docked right in the heart of the city. But I would not be spending any time there.
I was off the ship and heading for Sorrento shortly after we docked. Traffic was very bad this morning. The entire country of Italy is virtually closed. Everything shuts down in Italy this time every August. So everyone is on vacation. It took about an hour or so to get to Sorrento. We got a nice view of Sorrento shortly before our arrival.
We had about ninety minutes of free time to walk around Sorrento on our own. It is a beautiful town. Below is a picture looking out onto the harbor. There was a cruise ship in town tendering passengers to the shore.
After our walk around Sorrento we had a delicious Italian lunch at Parrucchiano. Below is the first course.
A very nice restaurant. I wonder if Dan & Kevin ate there. I would have loved to have spent as much time here as they did back in April. Next we drove to Salerno where we got on our boat for our Amalfi Coast cruise. Below is a picture of Salerno as we sailed away.
We sailed along the coast for about 45 minutes.
We passed a few towns on the way.
Then we arrived in Amalfi. Below is a picture from the boat as we sailed into the harbor.
We had about an hour free time to walk around Amalfi. I had to stop for some gelato of course. Below is a picture of the church.
Below is the busy beach. It was very hot again today.
After our stop in Amalfi it was back on the boat for the return trip to Salerno where we got on our bus and drove back to Naples. I was too bad that we didn't spend much time on the coast road, I would have liked to have seen more of that. We got back to the ship at 5:30. We sailed away an hour late tonight. The local pilot was late getting to the bridge. It was almost 8:00 before we left out berth. Below is a picture of Mount Vesuvius at about 8:30 tonight as we were sailing away. The sun had already completely set.
Tomorrow is a sea day. Thank God! I am exhausted. I have only had time to sleep about five hours per night since I got on the boat on Saturday. It's been fun (except for Rome) but I can use the day off. I probably won't write tomorrow, I'll give you a day off as well. We are now sailing for the Greek isle of Mykonos, where we will be on Friday. We set are clocks ahead an hour tonight, so I will now be 7 hours ahead of you Hoosiers.
