SUNDAY, JULY 13, 2014:
My sister and I stayed a little closer to home on Sunday.
We spent the day seeing things in the Colorado Springs area.
Our first stop was at Palmer Park where you get a nice view of the city.
We spent the rest of the morning at the Garden of the Gods.

The weather was really nice Sunday morning before the clouds rolled in around noon.

Next we drove over to the Air Force Academy.
The Cadet Chapel is one of the most beautiful buildings in the country.
The most striking aspect of the Chapel is its row of seventeen spires.

Hello Everyone, For the second day in a row we managed to have mostly good weather despite the rotten forecast. We spent all day today in Colorado Springs. Our first stop was at Palmer Park where you get a nice view of the city.  Next it was off to one of my favorite places in the whole wide world, the Garden of the Gods. Below is Balanced Rock.  It is a beautiful drive through the park and the weather was perfect.  Below is a picture of the Ford Explorer that I will be driving for the next three weeks with the beautiful Garden of the Gods in the background.  Below are the rocks at the main entrance to the park. We would walk between the two in the next picture.  We had to circle the parking lot a few times before we finally got a place to park. Then we walked around these giant rocks.  Then we drove around the back side of this area.  We then had a tasty lunch at the Trading Post inside the park. When we finished lunch it had clouded over and by the time we were out of the park it was raining. But by the time we reached our next stop just a few miles away, it was clear again. Below is the Air Force Academy.  Below are the parade grounds between the various halls of the academy.  And below is the spectacular chapel.  And inside the chapel below.  And the last thing we saw was the B52 bomber at the entrance as we were leaving.  Got back to my sister's home a little earlier today than yesterday. My feet are still causing me fits and it doesn't take much walking to put me in pain. Will be leaving Barb's in the morning and heading north. Tim |
