I left home at around 12:30 after I got off work and drove to Metropolis, Illinois.
I visited Harrah's Metropolis Casino on the Ohio River where I won over $100.

Before retiring for the evening I took a walk through
Fort Massnac State Park along the Ohio River.

I had a long drive ahead of me on Tuesday morning,
but I did take a quick spin around Metropolis before leaving Illinois.
Being the legendary home of Superman, a 15-foot bronze
statue of the super-hero stands in downtown Metropolis.

Since I was driving over 600 miles this day, I made very few stops.
I took a brief stroll through downtown Jaskson, Mississippi.

I awoke the next morning to a very gloomy and rainy start to my holiday.
I figured I better start my day indoors so I visited the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas.
Movie of the aquarium is available further down the page.

Weather had improved after leaving the aquarium
so I cruised the Mississippi River aboard The Steamboat Natchez.

Jackson Square was one of the first things we passed on the two hour cruise.

We got a nice view of the New Orleans skyline from the Mississippi River.

I stayed at the Doubletree Hotel, which is conveniently located
within walking distance of most downtown attractions.
The Doubletree is the smaller brown building in the center of this photo.
The World Trade Center in the tall building on the left.
The River Walk runs all along the river.
Harrah's Casino is just below my hotel, I didn't fare too well there.

After leaving the boat I walked all around the historic French Quarter.
This is St. Louis Cathedral, the focal point of Jackson Square.

Some 90 blocks represents the original French Colonial settlement of Nouvelle Orleans.

I continued my walk just before sunset after spending the afternoon at a movie.
This is the River Walk.

It was a beautiful evening for a walk. This is Jackson Square again.

The infamous Bourbon Street is bustling with activity after dark.

The moon was shining brightly over the Mississippi River as I made my way back to my hotel.

On Sunday I moved on Galveston. My first stop was Moody Gardens.

The first of the three pyramids I visited was the tropical rainforest.

Inside are thousands of exotic plants
from the rainforests Africa, Asia and South America.

There are also streams, waterfalls and abundant wildlife.

The second pyramid I visited was the aquarium
which is home to 8000 specimens of fish.

The third pyramid was the Discovery Pyramid which offered
exhibits that expolored the world of science.

One of the main highlights of the 242-acre complex
are the beautifully landscaped grounds.

I also took an hour long cruise on the Colonel Paddlewheeler Boat.

During our cruise of Offats Bayou
we got several nice views of The Moody Gardens complex.

The park is enormous at over 800,000 acres.
