The Superman legend received a nineties makeover in
this unusual version of the classic story. Although there
was some action, the emphasis was on romance, with a
strong dose of humor. Clark Kent was, as ever, the
incredibly handsome, incredibly pure country boy who
came to Metropolis to work at The Daily Planet, managed
by the blustery editor Perry White. He was paired with
lois, a cool, capable, career-obsessed take-charge type
who paid little attention to his polite advances. Instead
she pined for Superman, not realizing that he and Clark
were one in the same. Jimmy was the eager cub reporter/
photojournalist and "Cat" the catty society columnist
who oozed sexuality and would have taken hunky Clark
in a flash. Jonathan and Martha were Clark's
American Gothic adoptive parents.
Unable to snare Superman, Lois fell for the charms of
dashing Lex Luthor, apparently unaware that he was the
evil mastermind behind almost every calamity that befell
Metropolis. Eventually Lois figured out that Clark and
her Man of Steel were one in the same, and finally,
in October 1996, they were married.
